Although no one wants to have an insurance claim before or during a trip, some events are inevitable.
Prior to departure, be sure to read through all travel insurance documentation to know what is covered in your policy. Surprisingly, one of the most common reasons for denied travel insurance claims is the traveler misunderstood the coverage and claim guidelines.

In general, insurance companies will require you to file a claim form and verification of travel arrangements, as well as itemized receipts as proof of loss.

Trip Cancellation:
- Proof of payment—credit card statements, cancelled checks, or cash receipts
- Trip itinerary—schedule of travel plans with breakout of costs

Medical Expense:
- Medical and emergency services receipts—doctor, hospital, medical transport bills

Trip Interruption:

Most insurance companies allow you to start a claim online and will communicate electronically through the completion of your claim. Be sure to follow each step closely and file any necessary documents within the timeframe outlined in your document. Progress can often be tracked online, but generally expect the claim to be settled 30-45 days after the submission of all the required documentation for.
